Wreaths Across America Stopping In Wallingford For Only CT Event: Here’s What To Know
Police are advising motorists of the convoy route, along with road closures and parking bans that will be in effect for the event.
WALLINGFORD, CT — The annual Wreaths Across America “Escort to Arlington” event will be making its only public stop in Connecticut in Wallingford on Tuesday, Dec. 9.
The event will take place at 1 p.m. at Wallingford Town Hall.
“The Wreaths journey to Arlington has become a tradition in itself, allowing Wallingford a once in a lifetime opportunity to host this mission in the emotional and educational experience,” officials wrote in a news release.

Police are advising motorists of the convoy route, along with road closures and parking bans that will be in effect on Tuesday, Dec. 9.

The “escort” will be a convoy of approximately 15 tractor trailers carrying wreaths that are destined for Arlington National Cemetery, along with approximately 50 support vehicles that will arrive in Wallingford at approximately 1 p.m. on Dec. 9. The convoy will exit I-91 southbound at exit 15 (Route 68) and travel west on Route 68 to Route 5. The convoy will travel south on Route 5 to Center Street, east on Center Street, then south on South Main Street to the ceremony stop at Town Hall.
After the ceremony, the convoy will travel south on South Main Street to South Elm Street, turning left onto Route 5 southbound, to the Wharton Brook Connector, where they will travel back on I-91.
Please expect traffic delays along the escort route.
Members of the public are encouraged to line the convoy route to honor American Gold Star Mothers, The American Legion, The American Legion Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the VFW Auxiliary, AMVETS, and other Veteran Service Organizations traveling with the wreaths. The convoy will also include Members of the Patriot Guard Riders, Patriot Riders, and law enforcement from across New England.
The following road closures and parking prohibitions will be in effect for all vehicular traffic on Tuesday, Dec. 9:
- South Main Street, between the intersection of Center Street and Prince Street, will be closed to all motor vehicle traffic starting at 11:30 a.m. Parking on South Main Street will be prohibited starting at 11 a.m.
- Center Street (eastbound only), between the intersection of Main Street and Whittlesey Avenue, will be closed to all motor vehicle traffic once the convoy reaches Center Street.
- Prince Street (eastbound only), between the intersection of Main Street and the upper Town Hall driveway, will be closed to all motor vehicle traffic at approximately 12:30 p.m.
