Animal Cruelty Case in Quaker Hill Results in Woman's Arrest
In February 2016, seven dogs were seized from a Mohegan Avenue property. One dog was found deceased by police.

Waterford Police arrested a woman on Wednesday, March 9, in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged animal cruelty.
Quaker Hill resident Aftin Perez, 28, of 471 Mohegan Ave., was arrested on the following charges:
- 8 Counts of Cruelty to Animals
- 3 Counts of Risk of Injury to a Minor
- 8 Counts of Having Unlicensed Dogs
- No Rabies Vaccination Violations
On Friday, February 19, members of the Waterford Police Department and Waterford-East Lyme Animal Control, working in conjunction with the State of Connecticut Animal Control, executed a search and seizure warrant at 471 Mohegan Avenue Parkway in Quaker Hill.
"Upon executing the warrant, officers seized 7 dogs along with additional evidence," according to Waterford Police. "Another dog was found to be deceased. The dogs were taken to local animal shelters to be cared for as the investigation continued."
An arrest warrant was subsequently issued for Perez in connection with the investigation. Perez voluntarily turned herself in after being notified of the warrant for her arrest, police said.
She was held on $30,000 bond and transported to Superior Court in New London for arraignment.
