Honorary Police Officer Stops Litter-Bug; Pulls Over Teacher
Madeline Guarraia, Badge #8 with the Waterford Police, was out and about fighting crime.
"Badge #8 was out working today!" — Waterford Police Department Officers
East Lyme's Madeline Guarraia may be the youngest police officer on the Waterford Police force but that doesn't stop her from keeping crime in check.
The Waterford Police Department officers were thrilled to have Madeline on the force during the Tuesday, March 15, evening shift.
"Madeline Guarraia came to work at the Waterford Police Department today for our evening shift," police said via Facebook. "She attended roll call, took notes with the other officers, and initially headed out with Sergeant Seymour (Dad was nearby in another car). They patrolled the mall area, and stopped a person who littered — Madeline spotted him!"
Madeline observed traffic stops and an arrest. She even pulled over a car, with the help of Officer Sylvestre.
"When she walked up to the car it was one of her teachers," police said. "She gave her a ticket regardless... 'cause she's out fighting crime."
All throughout the evening, Madeline called out on the radio and spoke back and forth with the WECC dispatchers — a fact that didn't go unnoticed by local emergency personnel.
"Being a member of Oswegatchie Fire Department, I currently have my scanner app going on my iPhone," Marie Cook Egerton said on the Waterford PD's Facebook wall. I can hear our 'officer' on duty and OMG it is the CUTEST!"
Waterford Police said it was great having back-up from the dedicated Badge #8.
"Thanks so much for your hard work, we look forward to seeing you on another shift," police said.
