Mental Health Grant Awarded To Waterford School, Youth Services

School districts and camps across the state are receiving funds to support mental health programming in the summer.

WATERFORD, CT — The state is releasing more than $2 million in mental health grants for 36 districts and camps with summer programming.

The grants for each district and camp range from $17,000 to $85,000. The program uses funding from the federal American Rescue Plan Act. This is the third round of grants via the federal program, all of which are aimed at increasing access to mental health support services for Connecticut’s youths.

In Waterford, the Waterford Youth Services Bureau will receive a $35,271 grant. Waterford Country School will receive an $85,000 grant.

State Sen. Martha Marx (D-New London) said in a statement that the grant funding will be used to support Waterford youth over the next two years.

"It's relieving to know local students will remain connected with the mental health support they need during the summer months; some may only receive that support in schools, meaning summer vacation can disconnect them from what they need. This makes sure mental health aid will remain a year-round focus in our region. I'm grateful to the Governor and the Department of Education."

Gov. Ned Lamont said in a statement: “The need for mental health services for our youth continues year-round, and by enhancing existing programs and creating new initiatives tailored to their needs, we are investing in the future success and well-being of Connecticut’s youth. The collaboration between school districts, summer camps, and mental health professionals is key to this effort, ensuring that our students receive the necessary support during these critical periods.”
