Red Sox Win World Series, Early Morning Accident Closes I-395, Breast Cancer Fundraisers, And Happy Halloween!

Five things to help you plan your day in Waterford, Thursday, October 31, 2013.

1. What's the Weather? It's not ideal trick or treating weather, unfortunately. www.weather.com is predicting a mostly cloudy day with a high of 65 degrees but this evening winds will pick up and temperatures will drop to 59 degrees. There's a 60 percent chance of showers this evening.

2. This morning's commute could be a messy one for early birds. A two-vehicle accident in the southbound lane of I-395 closed the highway between exit 77 and exit 79 at about 3 a.m. About 20 minutes later, the northbound lanes of I-395 were closed from the merge with I-95 at exit 75 in Waterford to exit 79. The highway was shut down as of 4 a.m. For an update, go to www.wtnh.com/traffic

3. Red Sox fans rejoice! The Boston Red Sox won the World Series, beating the St. Louis Cardinals 6-1 at Fenway last night. It's been 95 years since the Red Sox won the World Series at home and fans were still at Fenway celebrating at 3 a.m.

4. Breast Cancer Awareness month comes to an end today but there are still fundraisers ongoing in Waterford.

At Filomena's Restaurant in Waterford you can Dine for a Difference. This will be the final day of a four-day fundraiser for Lawrence and Memorial Hospital Cancer Center. Not only will 100 percent of your donations go to benefit the new Waterford Cancer Center, the Buscetto family will match every donation.

Women served by the Cancer Center will also benefit from a fundraiser organized at Clark Lane Middle School by student Olivia Pitasi. Her bracelet sales will continue through Friday. Many Clark Lane students will also be wearing pink today as they celebrate Halloween with a flash mob dance performance of Thriller during lunch. You can find out more about Pitasi's campaign and what inspired it on Patch http://waterford.patch.com/groups/giving/p/clark-lane-middle-school-unites-to-support-breast-cancer-....
