Several Shops Closing Their Doors At Waterford Mall
The troubled Crystal Mall is seeing more tenants leaving, including some well-known retailers.
WATERFORD, CT — Two retailers and a bounce house at the Crystal Mall in Waterford are confirmed to have closed while a third retailer's lease is ending.
FYE, which stands for For Your Entertainment, has begun liquidating its inventory, The Day of New London reported.
However, Adelaide Godwin, a representative for the company that owns the mall, said that "to ownership's knowledge, an official closure date has not yet been set" for FYE.

"The leasing team is actually actively in communication with FYE corporate regarding renewal," Godwin said.
Everything in FYE is on sale with discounts as high as 50 percent off, according to The Day. FYE, which sells CDs, DVDs, toys, and collectibles, has locations in Meriden, Trumbull, Waterbury, and Danbury, according to its website.

Other stores closing at the mall include Ice Imports, Bounce World, and Zales Jewelry. Godwin confirmed that all three stores have closed.
Ice Imports, which sells swords, stones, crystals, decor, and jewelry, began a store closing sale Dec. 26 with everything at 50 percent off, according to The Connecticut Scoop.
Bounce World opened its bounce house facility in 2022 and is now closed. Zales Jewelry shut its doors in the fall, The Connecticut Scoop reported.
The news comes as the mall has shed tenants in recent years. The last remaining anchor store, JCPenney, closed last year.
The mall was sold at auction earlier this year along with the former Sears anchor store space.
Namdar Realty Group, which owns the mall, has said the property could be redeveloped.
"Ownership has remained open to various redevelopment avenues for Crystal Mall," Godwin said. "The potential scope of redevelopment may inform a new strategic direction for the property. Many different options are being explored at the moment, due in part to the proportion of leases that were set to conclude in 2024, which provides additional flexibility in how the property may be reorganized to open up new opportunities for redevelopment."
