“Violet & Daisy” is Waterford Filmmaker’s Directorial Debut

Waterford can add another Hollywood director to its list of esteemed natives as Geoffrey Fletcher’s “Violent & Daisy” opens today in select features.

According to IMDb, the movie is about “Two teenage assassins accept what they think will be a quick-and-easy job, until an unexpected target throws them off their plan.” 

He debuted the film at Conn College in April and according to a report in The Day, he told the audience that the film, “touches on relationships, materialism, friendship and innocence. He said he's particularly interested in when innocence collides with the grim reality the world can offer.” 

Fletcher attended Waterford High School and began making films around his Waterford neighborhood when he was 14, according to Wikipedia. A report in The Day says that he filmed his thesis in Harkness Memorial Park. 

According to IMDb, the film director was born in New London on October 4, 1970. He is also the screenwriter of Precious, 2009, which is based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire. Fletcher received an Oscar for Writing (Adapted Screenplay) from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on March 7, 2010 and he is the first African American to win in this category.

IMDb users who reviewed the movie described it as “a visionary film unafraid to take chances,” “an accidental masterpiece!!!,” “an interesting character piece – with guns,” “a new hope,” and “ying yang, but not really”.
