Waterford Cracks Down On Illegal Use Of ATVs, Dirt Bikes: Reports
The town is issuing hefty fines to violators of a new ordinance intended to curb reckless use of off-road vehicles.
WATERFORD, CT — Waterford has adopted a new ordinance targeted at stopping the reckless use of off-road vehicles on the town's roads, according to FOX 61.
The new law is intended to improve safety and inflict higher penalties for violations.
The new ordinance levies the following fines for unregistered use of ATVs, dirt bikes, and minibikes on Waterford streets, FOX 61 reported:

- $1,000 for first offense
- $1,500 for second offense
- $3,000 for third offense
Passengers can also be fined $250.
Police can take the violator's vehicle and either auction it off or destroy it, according to WFSB 3-TV.

A police official said these vehicles are often operated recklessly and disobey traffic laws.
