Waterford South Little League opened up its season Saturday on a cool, cloudy morning, full of fresh faces, longtime volunteers and high expectations.
At the event, Waterford First Selectman Dan Steward discussed the program's rich history, as the league wins several softball and baseball championships nearly every year. He said that continued greatness is a product of hardworking coaches and other volunteers who make the children the focus.
The ceremony commenced with two first pitches by longtime volunteers: Mark Mazzella, who threw a baseball, and Toni Maynard, who threw out a softball.
