Avoiding Falls Topic Of West Hartford Senior Centers' Program
One program will take place this week at the Elwood Senior Center, with another happening next week at Bishop's Corner Senior Center.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — For senior citizens, a fall can be much more than embarrassing — it can be life-changing.
For many seniors, a fall at home, work, or in public can mean a lengthy hospital stay and/or time in a rehabilitation facility.

The Town of West Hartford is hosting two programs starting this week to mitigate those worries: "Steps to Safety: A Fire and Falls Prevention Program" will take place on Thursday, Sept. 25, and Tuesday, Sept. 30.
The presentations will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on two dates: Thursday, Sept. 25, at Elmwood Senior Center, 1106 New Britain Ave., and Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the Bishop's Corner Senior Center, 15 Starkel Road.

These free events are brought to you in partnership with the West Hartford Fire Department and Office of Emergency Management, West Hartford Bloomfield Health Department, and West Hartford Social Services.
"Join us for an engaging and informative session on how to stay safe in your home. This interactive presentation shares information on developing an escape plan when there is a fire, and a home assessment to prevent falls," wrote the town in an announcement.
