WEST HARTFORD, CT — Ballet Theatre Company will present its second Black-box performance this weekend, and it will feature contemporary, modern, classical and neo-classical ballet.

Titled "Up Close: Spring," performances will occur on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Ballet Theatre Company's Rose and Nancy Compton Studio. The show is only the second live performance to take place in the studio, which was built in January 2020.

Two contemporary/modern works that focus on the importance of mindfulness will be shown — "Dixit Dominus" and "Happiness Doesn't Wait."

"This work is inspired by the absence of breath," Choreographer Kate St. Amand said of Dixit Dominus. "It is a tribute to those who have suffered, and a practice in gratitude for every breath we are able to take."

The show will also feature "Serenade in A," which features a quartet of women dancing to Igor Stravinsky; and "Bluebird Pas de Deux," which comes from the Act IV wedding scene in Sleeping Beauty.

Tickets are $40, and all attendees should show proof of COVID-19 vaccination at the door and are asked to wear a mask, officials said.
