Counseling Leaders At West Hartford Agency Honored By USJ

The duo was recently honored by a West Hartford-based university for their work training interns seeking careers in counseling.

WEST HARTFORD, CT – Two leaders at a prominent behavioral health agency in West Hartford were honored by a local university for how they teach students to help others maintain good mental health.

Martin Smith, clinical director for outpatient services, and Andrew Halpern, Elmwood site supervisor at the Bridge Family Center, were presented with the Chi Sigma Iota Award for Outstanding Clinical Supervisors by the University of Saint Joseph's Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) program.

At a recent awards ceremony at the USJ, which is located in West Hartford, Smith and Halpern were
recognized as “phenomenal assets” to the Saint Joseph’s students in the clinical mental health
counseling program.

Smith and Halpern lead the Bridge's counseling internship program, providing students with a well-rounded, supportive, and educational environment to grow and learn during their time at Bridge.

The internship program is tailored for each student’s needs and allows them to work alongside the rest of the Bridge’s clinical team, gaining invaluable hands-on experience.

The Bridge Family Center has three counseling centers located in Elmwood, Farmington, and
West Hartford.

The Bridge Family Center serves approximately 9,000 children, adults, and families each year.
