Family Displaced After West Hartford House Fire: WHFD

The blaze originated in one of the home's bedrooms early Monday morning.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A structure fire early Monday morning in West Hartford displaced a family living at the residence.

According to the West Hartford Fire Department, units were called to 11 Elmhurst Circule at about 5:08 a.m. for a reported structure fire there.

Upon arrival, fire crews observed heavy smoke coming from the front of a single-family, one-story home, the WHFD said in a release later Monday morning.

"Firefighters confirmed an active fire in a bedroom and initiated a coordinated interior attack while performing a primary search of the residence," wrote WHFD Deputy Chief Neal Sinatro.

He stated that all occupants had safely evacuated prior to the arrival of the fire units.

Sinatro did say one resident sustained a minor extremity injury but declined hospital transport after evaluation by emergency medical personnel.

"Crews worked quickly to bring the fire under control," Sinatro said.

The WHFD said the fire was knocked down within minutes and officially declared under control at 5:31 a.m.

Fire damage was contained to the bedroom, though the home sustained significant smoke damage.

The American Red Cross provided support to the displaced family of three after the home was deemed uninhabitable.

No firefighter injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation by the West Hartford Fire Marshal’s Office.
