Federal SNAP Crisis: West Hartford Offers Answers
With millions about to go hungry due to the federal shutdown, town officials are urging community donations and offering options.
WEST HARTFORD, CT — With the federal government shutdown threatening to force millions nationwide to go hungry, West Hartford officials have announced a plan to help its residents.
"Due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has informed the State of Connecticut that SNAP benefits may not be available in November 2025 if the shutdown continues," wrote the town.
For those locally on SNAP benefits, town officials said they need to use their card prior to Saturday, Nov. 1, as they might not work, even if there is funding on the card.
