Free Reflective Vests Available Via West Hartford's Safety Push

The Town of West Hartford's 'Vision Zero' effort has it giving away reflective vests and armbands while supplies last at town hall.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — If you're out and about on West Hartford's streets regularly and just want a little extra protection from vehicle traffic, you might want to visit West Hartford Town Hall.

That's because West Hartford residents can get a free Vision Zero reflective vest and armband while supplies last.

Both features will help drivers see you while traversing the sidewalks and roadways on foot, especially during difficult-to-see times of the day, such as dawn and dusk.

Meanwhile, the town's 'Vision Zero' traffic safety effort has them offering folks ways to protect the most vulnerable road users:

• Slowdown in neighborhoods, school zones, and anywhere people walk.

• Stay alert — put the phone down and watch for people crossing as attention and patience can literally save lives.

• Yield to pedestrians at crosswalks. It's the law.

• Be extra cautious at night as pedestrians can be hard to see.

"Pedestrians need to do their part, too, by wearing bright clothing or reflective gear so they can be seen," wrote the Town of West Hartford.
