Hartford Man Flees West Hartford PD, Crashes Into Juveniles: Police

The 27-year-old suspect is facing several charges related to the incident Monday evening in West Hartford.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A 27-year-old Hartford man has been charged with fleeing West Hartford police on Monday evening, then crashing into a car occupied by juveniles, injuring some.

According to the West Hartford Police Department, Julio Colon, 27, of Hartford, was charged with misuse of plates, illegal tints, interfering with police, evading responsibility, engaging police in pursuit, second-degree reckless endangerment, reckless driving, not having a license, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, not having insuraince, failure to drive in the proper lane, and failure to drive right.

Colon was held on a $75,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court on Tuesday, Nov. 18.

According to the WHPD, at approximately 5:23 p.m., officers attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop for motor vehicle violations observed on Kane Street in West Hartford.

Police said the vehicle got on Interstate 84 west, where officers attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop, just east of Exit 43.

According to police, the offending vehicle took off at a high rate of speed, proceeding off Exit 43.

The vehicle was not pursued; however, officers were able to observe the vehicle in various parts of town and successfully deployed a tire deflation device, the WHPD said in a release issued Tuesday morning.

At approximately 5:29 p.m., officers later observed the vehicle was involved in a motor vehicle accident in the area of Kane Street and Prospect Avenue, the WHPD reported.

Police said the suspect was placed under arrest and transported to the hospital for minor injuries.

The vehicle the suspect struck was occupied by juvenile passengers who were transported for precautionary evaluation, police said.
