Living World War II Vets Sought In West Hartford For Special Event
The town is looking for local World War II era veterans who want to go to a special state ceremony next month in Hartford.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — The Town of West Hartford is looking for local residents who served during the World War II era to take part in a special ceremony next month.
The State of Connecticut is planning a special World War II veterans recognition ceremony on May 19 in Hartford.

In partnership with Connecticut Veterans Affairs Commissioner Ron Welch and Major General Francis Evon of the Connecticut National Guard, Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz will host a ceremony to recognize all living World War II veterans.
Such veterans are defined as having served at any time from Dec. 7, 1941, to Dec. 31, 1946.

The ceremony will take place on Monday, May 19, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Governor William A. O’Neill State Armory, 360 Broad St., Hartford.
The ceremony has been scheduled in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, which ended in September 1945.
"It is important to thank these members of the Greatest Generation for their service and sacrifice," reads an event announcement.

People should provide the name, phone number, and address of the veteran. The Town of West Hartford will provide transportation.
