Old CVS Site To Be Upscale West Hartford Restaurant

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A former CVS pharmacy site in West Hartford has been sold and it will soon be home to a new, yet-to-be-identified, upscale restaurant.

According to its real estate broker, Center Equities LLC recently completed the sale of 978 Farmington Ave. to Market Hospitality Group, which oversees several upscale restaurant brands.

Matt Halpin — the principal of New England Retail Properties Inc., which brokered the deal on behalf of Center Equities — announced the sale Thursday.

He said the 9,100-square-foot building is "situated in the heart of West Hartford's vibrarnt center" and sits on a 0.44-acre lot, "offering exceptional opportunity in a high-demand area."

As for what brand will operate out of the old CVS site, that hasn't been announced.

"Market Hospitality Group plans to transform the former CVS site into a new upscale restaurant, adding to their portfolio of eight unique dining concepts," Halpin said.

According to Market Hospitality's website, the company operates eateries under the following brand names: Market Place Kitchen & Bar; Mercato; Marketplace Tavern; Blue Pointe; Beso Taco Bar; The Wheel; Key Largo Fisheries Market, Cafe, Marina; and MP Events.

Citing market dynamics, CVS in August 2023 announced the closure of the store at 978 Farmington Ave.

With six other CVS pharmacies in West Hartford, customers with prescriptions at that location were transferred to another store in town.

The next step for the site is approval from West Hartford's land-use boards, which shouldn't be a major issue given the current zoning status of the location.
