Roadside Yard Waste Collection Starts Monday In West Hartford
Starting on Monday, April 7, roadside yard waste collection in West Hartford will continue regularly through October.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Residents looking to dodge a few raindrops and begin cleaning up their yard can do so knowing the town is about to resurrect curbside yard waste pickup for spring.
West Hartford’s curbside collection of yard waste begins the week of Monday, April 7, for "B week" streets and the week of April 14 for "A week" streets.

Yard waste will be picked up every other week, and it coincides with folks' recycling collection days.
The program will run through the last week of October.

Residents should place their biodegradable bags or brown yard waste cart at the curb by 6 a.m. to ensure pick up.
Folks are asked not to place bags or carts out before the collection day.
Acceptable Material: yard trimmings, pine needles and pinecones, acorns, twigs, flowers, fruit and vegetables from a household garden, leaves, dead plant matter, and thatch
Acceptable Presentation:
- 30-gallon biodegradable paper bags
- Bundles of branches no more than 4 inches in diameter and 4 feet in length tied with organic string, twine, or rope. Place bundles next to bags or cart. Bags and bundles must not weigh more than 40 pounds. The material must be manageable for our collection crews to lift.
- Brown yard waste cart (container holds the equivalent of three 30-gallon bags). Cost: $90
Carts may be purchased by:
1. Calling West Hartford Public Works at 860-561-8100.
2. Visiting the DPW website, westhartfordct.gov/pw.
3. Going in person to the West Hartford Public Works office located at 17 Brixton St.
Unacceptable Material: Yard waste in plastic bags, trash cans, cardboard boxes, or other containers. Bundles tied with wire, nylon rope, or synthetic line of any kind. Branches exceeding allowed dimensions. Yard waste bags are contaminated with trash, grass, soil, rocks, bulky or metal items.
