Teen Health Fair In West Hartford To Promote Wellness

Hosted by West Hartford Community of Concern, the teen health fair/art show will take place at West Hartford Town Hall Saturday, April 5.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Local teens looking for something to do on a forecasted rainy Saturday might want to put their phones down and head to West Hartford Town Hall.

That's because middle and high schoolers are invited to the annual "Teen Wellness Fair & Student Art Show" on Saturday, April 5, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the West Hartford Town Hall Auditorium, 50 S. Main St., West Hartford.

They can, even, bring a friend. (Parents/caregivers are welcome too.) The fair is free to attend.

"This joyful event features food, music, games, prizes, art, yoga, and fitness activities, school and community resources, and more," wrote event organizers.

Some of the highlights include:

• STUDEN ART SHOW — Student artwork with the theme: "G.L.O.W. Up: Mind, Body & Soul" will be exhibited at the fair.

• QPR TRAINING from 1 to 2:15 p.m. — QPR is a suicide prevention training program to recognize the warning signs of someone in crisis. It stands for "question, persuade, and refer" people at risk for help. Teens and adults can attend. If interested, sign up here.

• ART & YOGA SESSIONS from 2 to 2:45 p.m. and 3 to 3:45 p.m. — "The way we move and carry ourselves can influence our emotions," wrote organizers. "Uncover how the time-honored practice of yoga and the creative outlet of expressive arts can transform your internal state." This workshop provides an opportunity to connect with one's inner self and build confidence. Limit: 12 people per session.

• PARENT WORKSHOPS 2:30 and 3:15 p.m. — At 2:30 p.m., discuss tips about engaging with school staff to support children with West Hartford schools' social worker Shaena Gray. At 3:15 p.m., discuss supporting teens with anxiety and depression with Community Social Worker Jason Tartt.
