Utility Pole Shattered in Friday Morning Accident in West Hartford

Driver sustained minor injuries.

One driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and power was disrupted at a residence on Tunxis Rd. after an accident Friday morning split a utility pole in half.

According to West Hartford Police, at approximately 7:30 a.m. Friday, a Toyota driven by Diana Thompson of New Hyde Park, NY was traveling on Tunxis Rd., headed east, just past Ridgewood Rd.  A vehicle driven by Joseph Parafiorti of West Hartford was traveling north on Cherryfield Dr., toward the intersection with Tunxis Rd.

According to the police report, Parafiorti stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of Cherryfield and Tunxis, but did not see Thompson's vehicle as he pulled out onto Tunxis.

Police sad that Parafiorti's vehicle struck Thompson's vehicle, causing it to crash into the utility pole which snapped from the impact.

Police said that Thompson was transported to Hartford Hospital for evaluation after sustaining minor injuries.

CL&P replaced the utility pole and restored power to the one residence that was affected.
