James Tate addresses the media at his home regarding his punishment.
James Tate addressed the media on camera at his home Wednesday afternoon to answer questions about the buzz surrounding from Shelton High School's prom after Headmaster Dr. Beth Smith found his to be a violation of school rules. So far, the public had only heard from and thousands of Facebook supporters. Here are some of his noteworthy quotes from the video interview Patch recorded:
- "At first I thought [the administration] would congratulate my creativity or something and not really be as angry as they were."
- "I was proud of what I did and I think Sonali liked it. But the one thing, again, is that my friends got in trouble. If I were to do it again I'd probably do it alone."
- "It means a lot to me that people care this much."
- "I feel like at this point reversing the decision wouldn't mean much."
- On if he thinks the punishment fits the crime: "Not at all."
Do you think James Tate is handling the situation well?
