WeHa Behavioral Health Nonprofit Offers Summer Therapy For Students
The Bridge Family Center says many college students regress when they suspend therapy upon returning home from school.
WEST HARTFORD, CT — A West Hartford-based behavioral health nonprofit is offering a line of services designed for helping college students cope during the summer break.
The Bridge Family Center, located at 1022 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, said this month — a month where many students are coming home from college — it is offering therapy services for them.
According to Bridge, despite summer offering a respite from the grind of academia, therapy shouldn't go away.

"When most college students think of summer break, they envision sunny days by the pool, time spent reconnecting with family and friends, and a respite from the stress and anxiety of classes and life on campus," wrote Bridge in a release.
"Thoughts of summer break should also include ensuring their mental health and well-being is not compromised by lack of therapy services they may have received while at college."

Bridge officials said suspending therapy services that may have taken place in school "can lead to a regression in therapy progress made during the school year."
According to Bridge, most students who use mental health services while at school do not have access to these same services during breaks.
As a result, Bridge has summer counseling sessions available for those students who would like to continue their therapy while away from campus.
Students are encouraged to schedule an appointment now to avoid wait times and retain therapy continuity.
The nonprofit Bridge Family Center serves approximately 9,000 youth and families each year. In addition to its central office, counseling centers, Family Resource Center and Teen Center in West
Hartford.
Bridge also offers counseling centers in Avon and Rockville (Vernon) and short-term assessment and respite homes in and around Hartford County.
