WeHa Health District To Host Virtual Diabetes Workshops

The free, virtual program starts Aug. 14 and continues through to September.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Those managing diabetes are invited to participate in a series of free virtual workshops starting Aug. 14 through the West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District.

Participants will be able to join registered dietitian and certified care and diabetes education specialist Paula Kellogg Leibovitz for a virtual seven-week series on managing diabetes and eating well while following diabetic guidelines.

It will take place via Zoom and there will be opportunities for questions and comments.

This workshop series is for individuals with Type 2 diabetes who are newly diagnosed or who may need an update on managing their diabetes.

It will take place:

• Wednesday days, Aug. 14, 21, 28, Sept. 4, 11, 18, 25 — 10 a.m to noon.

• Wednesday evenings, Aug. 14, 21, 28, Sept., 4, 11, 18, 25 — 6 to 8 p.m.

Topics include:

  • Meal planning using the plate method and beginning carbohydrate counting
  • Label reading
  • Monitoring blood glucose
  • Setting goals for your blood glucose and A1C
  • Diabetes medications and how they work
  • Exercising safely
  • Sick day guidelines

Registration is required and workshop materials will be mailed to participants before the series starts.
