West Hartford Fifth Graders Meet for Town-Wide Competition

Annual competition between West Hartford Public Schools was held this week at Conard High School.

Fifth graders from each of West Hartford's 11 elementary schools competed for ribbons and bragging rights Tuesday at the annual town-wide field day competition.

The 15th annual Inter-Elementary Duquette invitational Track & Field Meet was held at Conard High School. Top participants in each school's field day were earned the right to compete against their crosstown peers in the annual friendly competition, named in honor of Mona Duquette.

Physical education teachers from each school encouraged their students to do their best, but fun and physical activity was the spirit of the day.

"They're all congratulating each other. That's what it's all about," said Rosie Bonner, department supervisor for Health and Physical Education for the West Harford Public Schools.

Longtime Conard physical education teacher Pam Moffo, who has served as the announcer for every Duquette Track meet, has announced her retirement and was honored during the event and presented with a bouquet of flowers.
