West Hartford Offers Free Classes For Those With A Common Malady
The local health department is seeking registrants for a free, eight-week virtual series on managing your illness through diet and exercise.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — The local health department is offering free diabetes education classes to help those recently diagnosed or people looking to get control of their diabetes.
Residents can join registered dietitian and certified care and diabetes education specialist Paula Kellogg Leibovitz for a virtual seven-week series.

Her program, which starts next week on April 23, will focus on managing diabetes and eating well while following diabetic guidelines.

This 7-week diabetes workshop series is for individuals with type 2 diabetes who are newly diagnosed or who may need an update on managing their diabetes.
Topics include:
- Meal planning using the plate method and beginning carbohydrate counting
- Label reading
- Monitoring your blood glucose
- Setting goals for your blood glucose and A1C
- Diabetes medications and how they work
- Exercising safely
- What to do when you are ill
The spring 2025 workshops are on Wednesdays, April 23, 30, May 7, 14, 21, 28, June 4, and June 11
Participants can either choose daytime classes from 10 a.m. to noon, or evening classes from 6 to 8 p.m.
This workshop is made possible by a grant from the Connecticut Department of Public Health.
