West Hartford Safely Collecting Unwanted, Unused Drugs
The local health and police departments are participating in 'National Drug Take Back Day' this weekend.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Residents are being asked to collect their expired and unwanted drugs and bring them to the National Take Back Day event this weekend.
On Saturday, Oct. 25, the West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District, in conjunction with the West Hartford Police Department, will hold its annual National Drug Take Back Day at the Charter Oak International Academy, 425 Oakwood Ave.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The program is anonymous and free of charge. Volunteers will be on hand to take items from your vehicle.
National Take Back Day enables the public to dispose of expired, unwanted, or unused prescription and over-the-counter medications in an environmentally safe manner.

When flushed, these drugs can contaminate waterways and, when used illegally, pose a potential risk to public health and safety.
Items accepted are prescription and over-the-counter dosage medications, i.e., tablets, capsules, vaping products, and liquids.
Not accepted are intravenous solutions, injectable medicines, Epi-pens, and needles.
"Please take pills out of prescription bottles for disposal. Sealed plastic bags are recommended," wrote event organizers.
