West Hartford's Conard HS Wins CIAC Hockey Championship

The Red Wolves defeated the co-op team of JBWA, 4-1, at Quinnipiac University's ice hockey arena in Hamden on Saturday.

HAMDEN/WEST HARTFORD, CT — For the second time in a row and fourth time ever, Conard High School in West Hartford can call themselves state champions in boy's ice hockey.

Conard defeated the co-op team of Joel Barlow-Weston-Abbott Tech (Danbury), 4-1, at Quinnipiac University in Hamden's M&T Bank Arena on Saturday, March 22.

The win propelled Conard to the CIAC Division III hockey crown.

Joel Barlow is located in Redding, with representatives from Weston and those attending Abbott also competing on the squad, which is dubbed "JBWA."

Conard went up 3-1 in a wide-open first period, then cruised the rest of the game to earn the championship.

Goals were scored by senior Porter Andrews, Junior Jack Eisenberg, freshman Nate Dubois, and sophomore Henry Tamaccio.

The well-balanced attack allowed the Red Wolves to easily defend their 2024 CIAC championship a year ago when they defeated the co-op team of BBDI (Bethel, Brookfield, Danbury, and Immaculate HS) by the same 4-1 score as this year.

The championship galvanized the community, with the West Hartford Police Department, even, posting a message of congratulations on its Facebook page.

"The West Hartford Police Department would like to congratulate the Conard Boys Hockey Team for their CIAC State Championship win today! Great season," wrote the WHPD.
