West Hartford's USJ Men's Sports Wins First Commissioner's Cup
The USJ Blue Jays' men's sports teams enjoyed a banner 2022-23, leading to the school's first GNEC Commissioner's Cup.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — The University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford had a banner year in men's athletics in 2022-23 and it has the hardware to prove it.
The school announced recently that its men's sports teams won the school's first-ever Great Northeast Athletic Conference Commissioner's Cup.
The cup is a prize that recognizes all athletics programs in the school and their performance during a school year.

To get the cup, a university must accumulate the most points based on a scoring system that awards a program for winning the conference title, finishing in second place and qualifying for postseason play.
The USJ Blue Jays did well in all six men's varsity athletics programs, winning the conference in soccer and finishing as a conference runner-up in swimming/diving, basketball and lacrosse.

In addition, tennis and cross country qualified for their postseason tournaments, scoring points.
When a team wins the conference tournament title, it is awarded 5 points, with a desecending number of points for subsequent placements.
In all, USJ scored 22 points out of a possible 30 for a 73.3 percent average.
That figure easily beat out conference powerhouse Johnson & Wales University in Providence, R.I., which scored 13 points.
Johnson & Wales has won 10 prior Commissioner's Cups. This was USJ's first.
The USJ women's sports teams place 11th out of 14 teams in the Commissioner's Cup competition this past school year.
