Car Stolen From Driveway, Victim Assaulted By Suspect: West Haven PD

The victim ran after the suspect and was later struck in the face with a pistol, police said.

WEST HAVEN, CT — A man, whose car was stolen from his driveway, was later assaulted by the suspect, police said.

At 11:05 p.m. Friday, a person called 911 reporting two men fighting in the middle of Lawncrest Road Extension. The caller reported a firearm was involved in this altercation, police said.

"Officers quickly arrived and discovered one of the involved parties who explained he was warming his vehicle in his driveway when a male later identified as Miguel Roman (08/25/02) entered his car and drove away in it," police said. "The complainant stated he began to run after the car as he observed it turn onto the dead end of Lawncrest Rd Ext."

"At this location the physical altercation occurred where Miguel Roman utilized a pistol to strike the victim in the face and then ran away on foot," police said. "The victim sustained a large laceration to his face and was transported to an area hospital for further medical assistance."

Police and a K9 was utilized and they found a BB gun, ski mask and additional items, police said. A short distance away, Roman was found, police said. Roman surrendered to police and is charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree assault with a firearm, larceny of a motor vehicle, carrying a dangerous weapon, first-degree criminal trover, and first-degree criminal mischief. He was held in lieu of a $150,000 bond.
