'Interstate Fugitive' Found Inside Restaurant, Fireworks Later Found In Car: West Haven PD

"A search of Nathan's rental car revealed a large quantity of illegal fireworks," police said.

WEST HAVEN, CT — An "interstate fugitive" was found inside Nick’s Luncheonette with his girlfriend on Thursday afternoon, police said.

At 12:40 p.m. police received a phone call from an out-of-state bail enforcement agency advising them that an "interstate fugitive" was inside Nick’s Luncheonette with his girlfriend, police said.

The fugitive was identified as Nathan Schaeffer, who has multiple felony warrants from various states, police said. He also has a history of carrying dangerous weapons and illegal fireworks, police said.

The female was identified as Catherine O’Sullivan, who also had felony warrants out of Connecticut, police said.

Bail enforcement said Schaeffer and O’Sullivan were driving a Kia with Pennsylvania registration, police said.

Patrol officers checked the parking lot of Nick’s, where they located the unoccupied Kia, police said. Officers entered the restaurant and found Schaeffer and O’Sullivan sitting at a table with a female juvenile, police added

Schaeffer and O’Sullivan attempted to stand and leave the restaurant, but officers quickly gained control of Schaeffer before he could resist or flee, police said. Both individuals were then escorted outside, police added.

"A search of Nathan’s rental car revealed a large quantity of illegal fireworks," police said. "At the police department, Nathan provided false identification and was found in possession of an out-of-state debit card. Catherine was transported to another police agency in connection with her warrant. The female juvenile was released to her legal guardian."

Schaeffer was charged with the following:
• Fugitive from Justice
• Possession of Illegal Fireworks
• Identity Theft
• Criminal Impersonation
• Forgery in the 2nd Degree

He is currently being held on bond and is awaiting extradition.
