Man On Parole Accused Of Selling Cocaine, Fentanyl: West Haven Police

The man has been arrested in connection with an investigation into the illegal sale of "crack" cocaine and fentanyl, according to police.

WEST HAVEN, CT — A man on parole was arrested early Wednesday morning in connection with an investigation into the illegal sale of “crack” cocaine and fentanyl in West Haven, according to police.

The West Haven Police Department’s Street Crime Unit launched an investigation in June into the illegal distribution of "crack" cocaine and fentanyl by a man identified as 27-year-old Daris Best of West Haven, according to police.

Police said the investigation led to three arrest warrants for Best on several drug-related charges, including sale of a narcotic substance.

Members of the Street Crime Unit, with the assistance of the patrol division, took Best into custody early Wednesday morning in West Haven, according to police.

Police said while Best was being apprehended, he tried to flee in a vehicle and struck multiple marked West Haven Police Department vehicles.

Best eventually got out of the vehicle, and tried to run away, but police said he was quickly apprehended with the assistance of K-9 Gamble.

“A search of Best and his vehicle was conducted where 117 small zip-lock style bags containing a heroin / fentanyl compound, 42 bags of "crack" cocaine, 30 white wax folds containing a heroin / fentanyl compound, multiple cell phones, and $596 was located,” police wrote in a news release.

Best was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, interfering with police / resisting arrest, first-degree criminal mischief, first-degree reckless endangerment, possession with intent to sell greater than 1 ounce of heroin, and possession with intent to sell greater than ½ ounce of cocaine.

Police said Best, who was out on parole for drug-related charges was remanded into custody by the Department of Corrections.
