Obituary: John C. Hayes, 86, of West Haven
John served many years as a history teacher for Milford Public Schools and was a dedicated employee of the West Haven Park & Rec.
WEST HAVEN, CT - (From West Haven Funeral Home) John C. Hayes, age 86, of East Haven passed away peacefully on February 6, 2022. He was the loving husband of Linda Manginelli Hayes. John was born in West Haven, son of the late Edwin and Anne Cody Hayes.
He is also survived by his daughters Kathleen Hayes of Wallingford and Karen Hayes of Branford, his stepdaughter Jennifer (John) Ranciato of North Haven, his stepson Richard McHugh Jr. of Wallingford, his grandchildren Brenden and Marie Kane and his step-grandchildren Alex and Olivia Ranciato.
John was predeceased by his son John Hayes, his first wife Marie Grillo Hayes and his sisters Barbara Giglio & Patricia “Nancy” Welch.
John served proudly in the US Navy. He then graduated from Southern Connecticut State University and became a history teacher for the Milford Board of Education, a position he held for 34 years.
In the summertime, he was employed with West Haven Park & Rec, where he was a supervisor for all of the local parks. John was an avid golfer and a New York Yankees fan. He loved walking along the beach, even feeding a few seagulls on the way.
The hours for visitation will be on Thursday from 4-7pm at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. His funeral procession will leave the funeral home on Friday morning at 9:30 for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Lawrence Church at 10am, with military honors to follow.
Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association Connecticut Chapter, 200 Executive Blvd Suite 4B Southington, CT. 06489-1058.
