Obituary: Maria “Gina” Del Santo, 72, of West Haven

Gina, known for her kind, calm, selfless and loving demeanor, was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend to many.

WEST HAVEN, CT - (From Porto Funeral Home) Maria “Gina” Del Santo, 72, of West Haven, passed away on March 16, 2022 with her family by her side. Gina was predeceased by Bruno Del Santo, her loving husband of 54 years.

She was born on June 18, 1949 in Piedimonte Matese, Province of Caserta, Italy, daughter of the late Maria Conte and Mario Rossetti. Gina leaves behind her son, Giovanni (Monica) Del Santo and daughter Mina (Jason) Menga.

She was the cherished grandmother of Marco and Matteo Del Santo, and Juliana and Jason Menga. She leaves behind two sisters, Carmela (Antonio) Sasso, and AnnaMaria (Raffaele) Granitto, one brother Franco Rossetti, and many nieces and nephews.

Gina was a long-time resident of West Haven, having moved to the United States in 1970. She had a kind and calm demeanor and was adored by all around her—especially by her four grandchildren who will miss her terribly.

Her family was everything to her, and her selfless commitment to their happiness is something that was admired by all.

Gina loved to cook and keep up with her favorite Italian television shows, and her happiest times were those spent surrounded by the family and many friends that she loved.

Gina was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend to all—and her affectionate presence will be sorely missed.

The family gives special thanks to Dr. Marianne Vahey and to Dr. Johanna LaSala and her supportive team for all their help during this difficult time.

Her funeral procession will leave the PORTO FUNERAL HOME, 830 Jones Hill Rd., West Haven Monday morning at 10:00. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Anthony's Church at 10:30. Entombment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
