Obituary: Moriah Grace Conlan, 36, Of West Haven

Moriah, always proud of her Irish heritage, was a loving and devoted mother and a dedicated kindergarten teacher.

WEST HAVEN, CT - (From West Haven Funeral Home) Moriah Grace Conlan, 36, passed away on October 23, 2021.

She was the beloved daughter of Glenn, (retired Allingtown FD) and Joanne (retired WH teacher-Savin Rock/Mackrille) Conlan, mother of Declan Smaldone, age 3, son of Nicholas Smaldone. Sister of Glenn (Nuris) Conlan, and their son Orlando, niece of Robert (Lindy) Conlan, Bradley (Sandra) Conlan, Darci (Kenneth) Lawson, Cheryl (Michael) Burnham, Bill (Amy) Svetz, Pamela Tompkins, Christine (The late Frank) Trombetta, Robert (Ceci) Beckwith, Carla (Bill) Stacy, great uncles Donald (the late Jacquelyn) Karn and Harold (Ginny) Karn, cousins, Bryce, Braeden, Wade, Aedan, Andrew (Erica), Kyle (Michael), Paul (Michele), Amy, Michael, Todd, Daniel (Allison), Brandon (Marissa), Joey (Cara), Caitlyn, Matthew, Liam, Billy (Sarah) & Joey.

Also her beloved rescue dog Brooklyn, and many other cousins & friends, too numerous to count.

She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Donna & Bob Beckwith, paternal grandparents Robert & Beverly Karn Conlan and her uncle, Gary Kendzierski.

Moriah graduated from Sacred Heart Academy, received her B.A. from Fashion Institute of Technology, and her master’s degree from Sacred Heart University.

Very proud of her Irish heritage, she was a member of the West Haven Irish American Club, as well as the 2004 Greater New Haven St. Patrick’s Day Parade Queen. At the time of her death, Moriah was teaching kindergarten at Mathewson Elementary School in Milford.

Prior to Mathewson, she taught kindergarten at Stillmeadow in Stamford.

Moriah will be remembered for her devotion to her son Declan, their many adventures, including trips to the beach, reading, playing at the park, apple picking, or just playing together at home; Declan was her whole life.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 – 8 pm, at West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, October 28 at 10:30 AM in St. Agnes Church, Woodmont.

Friends are asked to meet directly at church. Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
