‘Snow Emergency’ Parking Ban Announced In West Haven: Here’s What To Know

With snow in the forecast, a "snow emergency" parking ban will be in effect in West Haven, Mayor Dorinda Borer announced.

WEST HAVEN, CT — Mayor Dorinda Borer has an important message for residents.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for West Haven. Snow accumulations of 8 inches are expected, with the heaviest accumulating from 8 p.m. today to 5 a.m. Saturday. Snow is expected to end midmorning Saturday.

To help Department of Public Works crews expedite snow plowing operations, I have declared a “snow emergency” parking ban during the storm.

The emergency declaration will begin at 7 p.m. today (Dec. 26) and remain in place until 8 a.m. Sunday (Dec. 28).

There is no parking on the even-numbered side of the street unless otherwise posted. There is also no parking on both sides of Campbell and Savin avenues, Morgan Lane, Elm Street, Meloy Road, Second Avenue from Elm to Beach streets, and Main Street from Savin to Washington avenues.

As an alternative to on-street parking, school lots, city lots and beach lots are available for free parking.

Vehicles parked in violation of the parking ban may be ticketed and towed. For information on the recovery of a towed vehicle, call the West Haven Police Department’s nonemergency line at 203-937-3900.

The following public lots are available for off-street parking:

— All school parking lots.

— Campbell Avenue and Captain Thomas Boulevard, next to Biagetti’s Restaurant, 77 Campbell Ave., and Scoreboards Cafe, 100 Campbell Ave.

— Campbell Avenue, across from Duffy’s Tavern, 241 Campbell Ave.

— Curtiss Place, behind 473 Campbell Ave.

— Campbell Avenue, behind 519 Campbell Ave.

— City Hall, 355 Main St.

— Former Stiles School, 575 Main St.

— Johnson Community Center, 201 Noble St.

— First Avenue commuter lot.

— Quigley Stadium, 362 Front Ave.

— Sawmill Road commuter lot, across from Econo Lodge, 370 Highland St.

Residents are urged to be patient during the snow removal process.

The DPW fleet includes 11 heavy-duty dump trucks with plows, two front-end loaders with plows and nine smaller mason dump trucks with plows.

If you live in West Shore’s 9th and 10th districts, please put out your trash and recyclables today for curbside pickup Saturday. Please be patient as crews will do their best to pick up both districts on Saturday, circling back on Monday if they do not finish.

For road safety, please do not put out Christmas trees until next week.
