Obituary: Richard M. Ludington, 74, formerly of West Haven

Richard, a loving, caring husband, father and grandfather with a heart of gold, worked numerous jobs and was very involved in the community.

WEST HAVEN, CT - (From West Haven Funeral Home) Richard M. Ludington 74, of Port St Lucie, FL, formerly of West Haven, passed away October 24, 2021 surrounded by his family. He was a loving, caring husband, father, and the best grandfather a child could ask for.

He always had a new joke, and nobody knew where he would get them from. He had a heart of gold and would drop what he was doing to lend a hand to his family and friends.

Richard was born in New Haven, son of the late Reginald and Dorothy Ludington. Richard enjoyed many jobs throughout his life, in his younger years he worked at Savin Rock, he then went on to set up and tear down amusement park rides for Chancey Brothers Amusements; He would then go on to travel the country working for Reinzo Trucking, East Coast Machinery Movers and Pedowitz Machinery Movers until his retirement.

He would tell stories about the many wonderful places he had the opportunity to experience across the country. He was a member of The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and an associate member of The American Legion.

Some of the things Richard enjoyed in life were watching NASCAR, antiques Stein collection and listening to classic country music.

Richard was a proud season ticket holder to the Pocono Raceway; He enjoyed camping at Eagle Lake in Pennsylvania, RV'ing in his mobile home and riding his Harley Trike; above all though, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, Richard is also predeceased his siblings, George Ludington, Thomas Ludington, Johnny Ludington, Edward Ludington; brother-in-law, Mark Dering.

He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife, Carrol Ludington; children Spencer (Kris) Ludington, Stephen (Kimmy) Ludington; grandchildren, Philip, Cooper, Jacqueline, Jake, Emma (Brandon), Zachary, Leah, and his special four legged grandpup Abigail who gave him so much joy and love; siblings, Paul (patty) Ludington, Joanne Wade (Phil), Dorothy-Clare (Victor) Tralongo, Patti Ann Dering, Cindy ( Robert) Marinoff, Regina (Jack) Aiello, William Ludington; sister-in-law, Carol Ludington; many loving nieces and nephews and close dear friends including JoAnn Fontana.

Richard was a four plus year survivor of mesothelioma.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to his physicians, Dr. Todd Tracey (Milford, CT) and his thoracic surgeon, Dr. Marcelo DaSilva.

A celebration of Richard’s life will be held Saturday Nov. 20th from 9:30-noon at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green, with a memorial service to commence at the funeral home at noon.
