Scooter Operator Dies After Crash In West Haven: Police

The crash remains under investigation, police said.

WEST HAVEN, CT — A scooter operator who was struck by a minivan last week in West Haven has died, police said in an update Monday.

The scooter operator, a 24-year-old New Haven man, died from his injuries, according to Sgt. Scott Allard.

The crash happened around 5 p.m. at the intersection of Forest Road and Debry Avenue on Oct. 21, according to Allard.

Allard said the scooter operator was struck by a minivan as he entered the intersection of Forest Road and Derby Avenue. The driver of the minivan tried to turn left onto Forest Road against a red light and struck the scooter operator, Allard said at the time.

The crash caused the scooter operator to be ejected and landed onto the road by the curb, according to Allard.

Allard said a passerby who witnessed the crash stopped and rendered CPR on the injured rider before the West Haven Fire Department’s arrival.

The scooter operator was taken to the hospital with serious head injuries, according to Allard.

The driver of the minivan stayed at the scene, Allard said.

The crash remains under investigation.
