Teens Tried To Break Into Occupied Home In West Haven: Police

Two teens were apprehended with the help of K-9 Gamble, and a third suspect is expected to be arrested, according to police.

WEST HAVEN, CT — Two teens were arrested after police said they tried to break into an occupied residence Wednesday night in West Haven.

Police responded around 8:45 p.m. on March 19 to the Bull Hill Lane area on the report of someone trying to break into their home.

The suspects were scared off when another resident who lived there happened to come home at the same time, according to police.

Arriving officers believed the suspects physically tried to break into the occupied residence by kicking in the front door, police said.

“Numerous officers as well as police K-9 Gamble were dispatched to the scene,” police wrote in a news release. “Initial responding Officers quickly canvassed the area and set up a perimeter while K-9 Gamble begun to track the suspects.

“Simultaneously, an Officer observed the suspects running from police upon observing their presence through Meadowbrook Court. As K-9 Gamble continued to track the suspects, they were apprehended by police in the complex. The K-9 track led directly to the suspects, who were confirmed to be the individuals involved in the attempted burglary. Items of evidentiary value were located along the route of the K-9 track.”

Police said the two suspects who were apprehended are 14 and 17 years old.

A third suspect was not apprehended, but police said his identity is known and an additional arrest is expected.

“These arrests are a direct reflection of the great collaboration between our Officers, and crimes such as this will not be tolerated within the City of West Haven,” police wrote.

Both juveniles were arrested on several charges, including criminal attempt at burglary. They were released on a juvenile summons to their guardians, according to police.
