West Haven Teen Killed, Man Injured During Shooting In Downtown New Haven: Police

Numerous shell casings were found and several vehicles and businesses in the area were damaged by gunfire, police said.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A West Haven teen was killed in a shooting overnight in downtown New Haven, according to police, who said a Hamden man was hurt in the area around the same time.

Officers responded shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday to gunfire on College Street between Crown and Chapel streets, and found 18-year-old Dillon Cornelius lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds, police said. He was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital but later died, according to police.

Numerous shell casings were found, and several vehicles and businesses in the area were damaged by gunfire, police said.

About 20 minutes after the initial law enforcement response, a 23-year-old man arrived at the hospital’s emergency department with a graze wound, which he said was the result of being struck by gunfire downtown, according to police.

“No connection has been made between the two victims at this time,” police said.
