West Haven Veteran’s Widow Receives Free Home Repairs From House Of Heroes CT
The surviving spouse of a U.S. Navy Veteran will receive free home repairs from House of Heroes Connecticut, according to officials.
WEST HAVEN, CT — The surviving spouses of two veterans will receive no-cost home repairs from the non-profit veterans service organization House of Heroes Connecticut in Hamden and West Haven on Saturday morning.
The two projects will bring the non-profit Veterans Service Organization’s total number of veterans served since its 2012 founding to 263 in 71 Connecticut communities, according to a news release.
- In Hamden, House of Heroes will assist the surviving spouse of U.S. Air Force Veteran Regis Benoit, who served from 1951-1955 as an aircraft mechanic at air bases in Texas, Kansas and Washington state. Benoit passed away in January at age 93. The project is being supported by Project Partners Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin Company, and the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven.
- In West Haven, House of Heroes will assist the surviving spouse of U.S. Navy Veteran Anthony Ruggiero who served from 1950-1953 aboard the USS Myles C. Fox, a DDR 829 Destroyer, traveling to ports worldwide. Ruggiero passed away in 2021 at age 88. The project is being supported by Project Partners Annawon Lodge 115 of the Connecticut Freemasons (West Haven) and the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven.
Dozens of volunteers will complete a variety of work at the two projects including landscaping/yard clean-up, painting, walkway repairs, pressure washing, storm door repairs, replacement of rotted windowsills, deck repairs, kitchen repairs and installation of a new air conditioning unit in West Haven.

A 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, House of Heroes Connecticut recognizes, honors and serves military and public safety veterans and/or their surviving spouses in need for their sacrificial service to America. The organization strives to “Make a Difference in a Day,” providing no-cost home repairs focusing on safety and accessibility.
