WESTON, CT — If you’re like many of your neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.

Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.

Here are six local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:

  1. SOAR Together.: Enhances community well-being through creative programs like workshops, social events, and collaborations aimed at improving health and life outcomes.
  2. Mark Twain Library Association: Provides library services, cultural events, and educational resources for the Redding community while honoring its historic roots with Mark Twain's legacy.
  3. Weston History and Culture Center: This organization (formerly the Weston Historical Society) promotes the preservation and education of Weston's history through events, exhibits, and community engagement programs.
  4. Christine's Critters: A wildlife rehabilitation and education organization in Weston that cares for injured birds of prey and reptiles. It also runs educational programs about wildlife conservation.
  5. Easton Community Center: Offers recreational, cultural, educational, and social programs to enhance the well-being of Easton's residents, including children, teens, and adults.
  6. Easton Garden Club: Dedicated to gardening, environmental stewardship, and community beautification. They promote conservation efforts, such as the Pollinator Pathway initiative, and provide educational resources for plant care.
