A Juried Art Show at Easton Public Library

Easton artist Howard Aaron usually does portraits, but a landscape he created of an Alaskan Fiord is the framed painting displayed in the Community Room of Easton Public Library.

"I was on a cruise and took a photo from the top deck of the boat," Aaron said of the inspiration for his painting. "I wanted the feeling of an overcast day with the mist lifting and showing there were icebergs - basically denoting the scale and atmosphere of the scene."

Aaron's painting is among the 54 works created by 41 artists from all over Connecticut and New York. The library is hosting the seventh annual regional open juried fine art show.

Aaron and Kris Lynch, also of Easton, are co-chairs of the show, which will be judged by Arthur Guagliumi, a professor of fine art and education of 40 years at Southern Connecticut State University.

Guagliumi will judge the artwork Wednesday morning and write comments explaining his reasons for choosing the winning pieces.

The awards will be given out during a catered reception at the library, 691 Morehouse Road, this Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m. It costs $25 per person at the door.

The awards ceremony will be at 8 o'clock that night.

Prizes will include First Place ($100), Second Place ($75) and an honorable mention ($50). There will also be awards for merit and every artist who's recognized will get a ribbon.

"The purpose of the show is to raise funds for both the Easton Public Library and to further the arts in Easton," Aaron said.

The artwork will be on display in the Community Room until June 14.
