Happy Easter and Passover. The Town Hall and Library will be closed on Friday, April 18th, in observance of Good Friday. REMINDER: The Town Meeting will be held at Samuel Staples Elementary School on Monday, April 28th at 7:00 PM. The Region 9 and Town Budgets, the Planning and Zoning ordinance change, and the designation of Town Hall as a historic property will be voted on at a referendum also held at SSES on Tuesday, May 6th, from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM. More information will be posted on eastonct.gov next week.

It is official. Chief Richard Doyle, who has served as chief for 5 years and 38 years on the Easton Police Department, is retiring on June 25th. He will be replaced by current Westport Police Chief, Foti Koskinas. More to come on this.

If you drive by EMS headquarters on Sport Hill Road, you will see that significant work has been done in gutting the old building.

As I mentioned last week, we are extremely proud that the Governor’s Bond Commission has awarded Easton $1 million for renovations to the Easton Public Library. On Monday, April 21st, at 4:30 PM, we will be celebrating this award. We will be joined by our local representatives, members of the Library and Building Committees, and other dignitaries, including Deborah Schander, the Head of the CT State Library. All are welcome.

The Zoning Board of Appeals will continue to discuss an appeal of the zoning permit issued to Gourmet United for renovations at 440 Sport Hill Rd. (formerly EVS). This meeting will now be held on Tuesday, April 29th, at 5:30 PM at the Town Hall. The public may attend.

There are over 3200 children of all ages in foster care, and only 1400 families ready to care for them. The Connecticut Fire Academy will be presenting a college fair for people interested in a career in the fire service. It will be held at the CT Fire Academy on Friday, April 25th, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. For more information, please contact my office.

The Staples Academy Foundation is holding a Fish Fry on Good Friday, April 18, 2025 from 5 to 8:00 pm at the Congregational Church Hall, 336 Westport Road.

Join PBS Books at the Easton Public Library on Wednesday, April 23rd at 8:00 p.m. for an enlightening conversation exploring the transformative power of public libraries in America. This special event, created to support the upcoming Independent Lens film “Free for All: The Public Library”, features an in-depth discussion with filmmakers Dawn Logsdon and Lucie Faulknor, as well as a thought-provoking conversation with Cindy Hohl, President of the American Library Association. Don’t miss this engaging conversation about the past, present, and future of America’s public libraries.

The Easton Senior Center has scheduled four classes with AARP for SAFE DRIVING CLASSES. The dates are: Friday, April 25th, Friday, July 18th, Friday, September 12th, & Friday, November 7th. All classes are from 11:15 to 3:15. The cost is $24 for members and $25 for non-members. Please sign up for the class you are interested in.

Please join the Connecticut Clean Communities on Saturday, April 26th, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Easton Public Library to help safeguard our local watershed by cleaning up harmful waste along our reservoirs. We will supply all the necessary tools and materials! Register on their website: www.ctclean.org. This is something we can do to protect our water right now.

Saturday, May 3rd - 100th anniversary celebration for Easton Boy Scout Troop 66. The ceremony starts at 5:00 pm, followed by dinner, at Jesse Lee Church, 25 Flat Rock Road. Open to the public.

Festival of Hope Food Truck and Craft Festival will be held on Saturday, May 3rd from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Trumbull, Monroe & Easton First Responders and Touch-a-Truck, Cornhole Challenge, Food Trucks, and Craft Festival to benefit The Center for Family Justice at Trumbull Mall (near the bus depot). Open to the public - free admission.

Easton Park and Rec invites all Easton families to the Annual Easton Kids Fishing Derby on Sunday, May 4th, 2025, from 8:00 am to 10:30 am at Aspetuck Park, 369 Black Rock Road. Ages 15 and under, Easton residents only. Bring chairs, snacks, and poles. We will provide the live worms. Prizes awarded for the largest, smallest, and most fish caught!

The Easton Public Library will be hosting an American Red Cross Blood Drive on Thursday, May 8th, from 11:30 am to 4:30 pm. Sponsored by the Siren Aide of Easton in memory of Ellen Longbine Waugh. Please make an appointment at www.redcrossblood.org / 1-800-RED CROSS.

SAVE THE DATE! Easton Learning Foundation (ELF) is hosting a Golf Tournament on Monday, May 19th at Tashua Knolls Golf Course. Check in at 8:30 am, shotgun start at 10:00 am, $225.00 per player, $900.00 per foursome.
