Cause of Easton Home Fire Remains a Mystery

Investigators remain unsure as to what caused the blaze at a Judd Road home last week.

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of , Easton Deputy Fire Marshal Lucy Crossman said earlier this week.

Though the house was completely lost, homeowners sustained only "minor injuries" and no firefighters were injured extinguishing the blaze, Crossman said.

Crossman described the response by the  and Easton Volunteer Fire Company to the fire at 507 Judd Road on Friday, May 18 at 6:03 p.m.

"Upon arrival, firefighters reported the two-story colonial home heavily involved in fire," Crossman said in a press release. "Unable to make entry because of heavy fire, and hampered by live electrical wires, firefighters made an exterior attack, then were forced to withdraw to safety due to exploding fireworks that had been stored in the garage."

Fireworks stored in the house which exploded during the blaze made the firefighters' response all the more difficult.

"The fireworks created a tremendous safety hazard for the operating firefighters," Crossman said. "Firefighters remained on the scene until mid-afternoon Saturday, soaking the debris and any unexploded fireworks."

Crossman said the Connecticut State Bomb Squad and FBI responded to the scene to assist the Easton Fire Marshal’s Office, the Easton Police Department and the State Fire Marshal’s Office in the investigation.
