Why Go? The Mark Twain Library consistently puts on quality events. Join Craig Hotchkiss, the Mark Twain House’s Museum Educational Program Manager, for a PowerPoint presentation and Q&A about Mark Twain’s favorite sport, baseball. Hotckiss told Patch that Mark Twain, “although he grew more disillusioned over time, saw baseball as the assimilation of American values.” The presentation will show how the world of 19th century baseball reflected the ethics and socioeconomic issues that Twain tackled in his work, such as those in his novel A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court. Twain was also a part owner of a minor league team in Hartford, according to Hotckiss.
Oh, and for those who may be wondering about the title: baseball was two words in the 19th century.
