Driver Seriously Injured In Easton When Deer Crashes Into Windshield
The two-vehicle crash occurred Monday morning on Route 59 near Sherwood Drive.
EASTON, CT — A woman was seriously injured Monday morning when a deer that had been struck by a pickup truck crashed through the windshield of her SUV on Route 59 in Easton near Sherwood Drive, according to Easton Police Chief Richard Doyle.
The woman had to be extricated from her 2015 Honda Pilot following the 9 a.m. crash, and she was taken to Bridgeport Hospital for treatment. Her condition is not known.
"A preliminary investigation revealed that the pickup truck was traveling north on Rt. 59 when a large deer entered the roadway from the right," Doyle wrote in a post on the department's Facebook page. "The pickup truck struck the deer causing it to go airborne. The deer then struck the SUV which was traveling southbound on Rt. 59. The deer struck the windshield and entered the passenger compartment of the SUV. It continued through the vehicle and was ejected out through the rear window."

In addition to Easton police, the accident reconstruction teams from both the Fairfield and Westport police departments also assisted in the investigation. Easton firefighters and EMS personnel also responded to the crash.
The road was closed for several hours and has since been reopened, according to Doyle. The crash remains under investigation, and the department will release additional information when it becomes available.
