The quintet — which includes trumpet, horn, trombone, and tuba — has been performing together since 1981 and is known for its polished sound and decades-long musical bond. Their program included selections composed by Freemasons throughout history, adding historical resonance to the performance space: the Lodge room of Ashlar-Aspetuck, a local Masonic lodge in Easton.
Anthony Nunes, a professional music teacher and member of the ensemble, is also a Mason. “From the moment I first entered our Lodge room,” he said, “I thought what a wonderful place it would be to play music. The acoustics seemed perfect. Today, having the chance to perform here, with my favorite instrument, alongside my Masonic brothers and lifelong friends, for such an important cause, is truly special.”

The concert was open to the public and offered an intimate musical experience in a setting not typically associated with live performances. Guests had the opportunity to support cancer research while hearing a seasoned brass quintet in a reverberant, reflective space.
Brass for a Cause showcased not only the power of music, but also its ability to bring communities together in support of important causes. The Lodge reminds all attendees that early detection is critical in the fight against cancer and encourages regular health screenings.
Ashlar-Aspetuck Lodge and the Candlewood Brass Quintet thank everyone who contributed to the success of this unique musical and charitable event, and encourages eveyone to get screened for cancer.
