Easton Garden Club Announces Annual Wreath & Poinsettia Sale

The Tradition of Giving in Easton

The Easton Garden Club has a history of giving back to the community. Stories of members decorating the town date back to the year it was founded in 1938. Easton’s small-town charm is timeless as is the Club’s dedication to spreading some holiday cheer!

While you drive around town in December, be sure to look at the Town’s landmark buildings. EGC’s members start with the Easton Library and head across the street placing fresh pine wreaths with their brilliant red bows on Town Hall’s buildings. They then spread out to Easton EMS, Easton Volunteer Fire Company, The Senior Center, Adam’s schoolhouse, and more! Last year the club was inspired by the PTO’s Light Up Easton challenge and added solar lights to their festive trimmings. The large potted planters also receive special touches with seasonal greens. Simultaneously, EGC members hand deliver Poinsettias to our Seniors in need for the holidays. Thank you to Alison Witherbee, our Easton Municipal Agent for the Aging, together with the Easton Senor Center, for providing us with this important list. We are always humbled by the ‘Thank You’ letters that start pouring in, sharing stories of connection and gratitude for this gift of joy during the holidays.

Each year we host our Wreath & Poinsettia Sale to fund these activities that benefit our Easton Community. Please consider placing an order. The sale is open until November 22nd for curbside pickup on December 1st at the Easton Public Library Community Room Courtyard. All pickup procedures will be strictly aligned with Connecticut’s COVID-19 safety guidelines and restrictions.

The following traditional items are available for purchase:

• Double-sided Wreaths (undecorated) - Small 12”, Medium 16”, Large 24”, and 36” Barn Wreaths
• White Pine Roping: 25 yards
• Poinsettias: Red, White, or Pink in three sizes: Single, Double or Triple

Newly added this year, are the following:

• Holiday Logs - Decorative Holiday Boxes for décor or for cemetery made with fresh evergreens
• Holiday Gift Kits – hard to find Native Ecotype Seed truffles or “Seed Bombs” for Winter Seed Sowing. Three collections to choose from. Each Kit comes with planting instructions and support from our conservation committee Easton Pollinator Pathway project members who hand roll the seed bombs with native open pollinated Ecotype 59 seed grown locally to thrive in our region.

Winter sowing! Great holiday fun! Make your garden more pollinator friendly by simply tossing these “seed bombs” into your existing flowerbeds, fields, or place into pot or planter. Winter sowing means no watering. The outdoor winter temperatures provide the necessary “cold
stratification” these Native seeds need to flourish. The snow and rain will help the seed get established and the plants begin to grow in spring. Your local pollinators will thank you! Each carton contains twelve non-edible seed “truffles” or “seed bombs” ready to plant. These kits may be stored anywhere until planting - indoor or out, warm or cold, as long as they are kept
dry.
