Easton P&Z Extends Public Hearing On Home-Based Yoga Business Proposal
Easton Planning and Zoning Commission extends hearing on 248 Center Road yoga studio plan to July 15 for legal review.
EASTON, CT — The Easton Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously on July 1 to extend the public hearing on a special permit application for a proposed home-based yoga and fitness facility at 248 Center Road.
Applicants Kristen McGovern and Gary Smith requested an extension to allow time for pending legal opinions.
The application, filed under Section 3350.7 for a major home-based business, has generated significant public interest. During the meeting, McGovern and Smith presented revised plans aimed at addressing neighborhood concerns, including reducing class sizes, decreasing parking capacity, and adding screening.

More than a dozen residents spoke during the public hearing, with the majority voicing opposition. Concerns ranged from noise and traffic to potential impacts on property values and neighborhood character. A few residents, however, spoke in support of the proposal.
Commission members also raised questions. Commissioner Christian Calemmo asked whether the driveway bridge had been inspected by an engineer or the fire marshal. Commissioner Raymond Ganim inquired about noise mitigation and outreach to neighbors, while Chairman John Foley questioned the real estate valuation documents submitted by the applicants.

Documents entered into the record included letters from neighbors, Inland Wetlands correspondence, fire marshal comments, a video submission, and presentation materials.
In other business, the commission approved a $4,000 partial bond release for fence installation at 38 Far Horizon Drive, contingent on completion of pending items outlined by the Department of Public Works.
No action was taken on a separate bond release request from Kirby Lane Associates due to missing documentation.
The meeting adjourned at 9:12 p.m.
